Side Dishes

Simple dinners were served in the 1940s-50s and often included the two sides, or what was called "Meat plus Two".

Sides? Who eats like we used to? I remember the "casserole craze" when side dishes were obsolete. That was in the 60s and 70s. Before that, it was the Cleavers: a meat, a veggie, some starch (today called carbs), maybe a side salad also, and of course, dessert at the end of the meal.

I favor reviving those "old classic" meals. If you're diabetic or need to lose weight, doing things this way makes tracking yourself much easier. As an example:

4 oz ground beef patty, 1/4 cup mashed potatoes (starch), 1/2 cup green beans, 2 tbsp gravy, mixed greens on the side, and some sugar-free pudding for dessert! Easy!

Below is the directory of side dishes.
