When I was growing up we had a pet O'possum named Olivia. She came to us via a friend of my Mom who found the little baby that had fallen from its Mama's pouch. Mom got me involved in dropper feeding her but Mom did most of it. Olivia grew and became part of our family, even using the cat litter box on a regular basis and acting more like a pet cat than a possum!
But this wouldn't have happened in the deep South or other places. No, Olivia would have been served up with potatoes, carrots, etc.
