Layered Beef Bake

Rutabagas are lower in carbs and calories than are potatoes but you can use either of them in this recipe. It's a 1950s recipe and though it sounds kind of odd, it's really quite good. Though, I would mix in some spices with the burger before using.

  • 2 cups thin sliced Rutabagas or yellow potatoes
  • 2 cups sliced celery
  • 2 cups raw hamburger (do not sub!)
  • 1 cup chopped fine green bell pepper
  • 1 cup sliced sweet onion
  • 2 cups no salt added canned tomatoes

  1. Place in an oiled casserole in the order listed (a glass casserole is best as it allows you to see the burger cooking)
  2. Bake at 300 for two hours.
  3. Allow to stand 10 minutes to cool before serving.
