Rutabagas are lower in carbs and calories than are potatoes but you can use either of them in this recipe. It's a 1950s recipe and though it sounds kind of odd, it's really quite good. Though, I would mix in some spices with the burger before using.
- 2 cups thin sliced Rutabagas or yellow potatoes
- 2 cups sliced celery
- 2 cups raw hamburger (do not sub!)
- 1 cup chopped fine green bell pepper
- 1 cup sliced sweet onion
- 2 cups no salt added canned tomatoes
- Place in an oiled casserole in the order listed (a glass casserole is best as it allows you to see the burger cooking)
- Bake at 300 for two hours.
- Allow to stand 10 minutes to cool before serving.
