Easy Hamburger Soup

Hamburger soup has been around for a long time. During WW2 when beef was scarce, this soup went a long way to feeding a family. Served with some homemade bread it kept you warm on a cold night!

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup thinly sliced carrots
  • 1 cup sliced cabbage
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
  • 3 cups low sodium, fat-free beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  1. In a soup pot over medium-high heat, cook ground beef and onion for 6 to 8 minutes or until meat is browned.
  2. Add carrots, cabbage, and celery, and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes, or until vegetables are tender.
