Old Fashioned Ham Spread

When you were a kid, if you were back in the 1960s, there came a time when Mom decided to put the rest of the leftover ham to good use. Usually, this was the outer rim and maybe close to the bone stuff, going before it turned into ham bone soup. As a young kid I never really appreciated these flavors but now? I do. This is great for a sandwich or tea sandwich, a spread on celery or crackers, basically whatever!

  • 1 cup cubed ham (to lower sodium, rinse the ham and dry it off with a towel)
  • 1 hard-boiled egg chopped
  • 3 tbsp chopped celery [can be omitted]
  • 2 tbsp chopped red onion
  • 2 tsp pickle relish - sweet
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise (go light!)
  • 2 tsp prepared mustard (more if you like)
  • 1/4 cup Swiss or cheddar cheese- shredded

  1. Place the ham into a food processor and process to shaved texture
  2. In a large bowl place everything and combine

Chill before using.
