Banana Sweet Rolls

These sweet rolls are a Hawaiian treat and everyone loves them! As yeast rolls go, they're easy to make, simple ingredients and well, honestly, sweetly delicious without being sickeningly sweet. You could glaze the tops but I prefer the sprinkling of baking sugar.

Can you add other flavors? Of course! Put in some cinnamon. Add in some small, chopped nuts if you like. Or maybe even add some sweetened pineapple flakes for a more tropical approach. And of course, you could always frost them.

However you want to serve them, they're always a hit!

  • 2 medium ripe bananas
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups of AP flour (or bread flour) plus 1/3 for rolling out
  • 1/2 cup raisins or currants

  1. Smash up the bananas very well.
  2. Add in the egg and cooled butter
  3. Add together the yeast, salt, and flour (sifting)
  4. Add the dry to the wet in 1/2 increments, mixing well until no flour is visible
  5. Cover and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  6. Scoop onto a well-floured board and knead into a soft but stiff ball.
  7. Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning to coat.
  8. Cover with plastic and allow to rise until doubled.
  9. Pour out and knead in the raisins.
  10. Shape into a circle about 2" high and cut into 16 wedges
  11. Shape into 16 balls and place in an oiled pan or one lined with paper.
  12. Proof again to double.
  13. Shake top with confectioner sugar and bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes.
