Simple Snacks for Diabetics

Diabetics need to watch their blood sugar to make sure it doesn't go too high or too low. Snacking plays a role in this. But one word of caution: DO NOT INSIST ON HAVING A SNACK! If your carb count is rather high in a meal, then leave off snacks. Here are some quick and easy ideas.

  • 1/2 cup blueberries with 1/4 cup cream and stevia
  • 1 3oz slice of cantaloupe or 1/2 cup cubed with 1/2 mini bagel and 1 tbsp whipped cream cheese
  • 1 slice of whole grain toast with jam and spread
  • 1/3 cup cooked rice (overcooked and drained and rinsed) 1 pot of sugar free vanilla pudding and a dash of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup cottage cheese with 1/2 cup fruit of choice
  • 2 slices of apple, no skin, 1 piece of lower sodium turkey meat (deli), 1 tsp whipped cream cheese, spread the cream chees on the turkey meat and wrap the apple in the middle.
  • Celery stuffed with cream cheese or peanut butter and little raisins (ants on a log)
  • 1/2 medium green apple cut into chunks and tossed with 1/2 oz crumbled goat cheese and drizzle of honey
  • 1 slice of bread and 1/2 tbsp nut butter
