Make Your Own Ketchup

You do realize that you'll pay more for less when you buy lower-sodium and lower-sugar ketchup, right? It seems silly, but it makes sense: commercial outfits are geared to make most of their product one way, and every change costs them, too.

But YOU can do it cheaper!

  • 1 cup (no salt added) tomato paste
  • 1 tsp each of garlic powder and onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt, IF you can have it- if not, leave it out
  • 3 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup (you can find sugar-free maple syrups online, but they're not cheap; however, if you don't mind a little bacon flavor in your ketchup, try Walden Farms' sugar-free bacon-maple syrup!)
  • 3/4 cup water

Mix together, then simmer for about 5 minutes.

Keep refrigerated.
