Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

When I was growing up, Ma used to make salisbury steaks. Basically they're glorified burgers but we believed they were as good as any steak! This recipe is adjusted for diabetics (the almond flour also gives it more protein) but you can replace that with bread crumbs, just adjust the carbs and calories accordingly.

Serves 4

  •  1 lb lean ground beef
  •  1 egg
  • 1/4 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  •  1 cup sliced mushrooms
  •  1 cup beef broth
  •  1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  •  1 teaspoon cornstarch

  1.  Combine beef, egg, almond flour, and seasonings.
  2.  Form four oval patties.
  3.  Brown patties in a skillet.
  4.  Remove patties and cook mushrooms.
  5.  Add broth and Worcestershire sauce.
  6.  Stir cornstarch into a little cold water and add to gravy.
  7.  Return patties to skillet and simmer until cooked through.

Per serving: approximately 290 calories | 5–7 g carbohydrates | 30 g protein

If you stick to the almond flour, you can enjoy some mashed potatoes and gravy in the side.
