Deep Fried Onion Rings
- 1-2 large Spanish onions, cut in 1/2" slices and separated
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp pepper
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- Place the onions in a large bowl
- cover with the buttermilk and toss
- add in the salt and pepper and toss
- Begin heating your oil (around 3 cups or more depending on pot size) to 350 degrees
- Put the flour, cornmeal, salt and pepper in a large bowl and mix
- Flop into the bowl with the onion rings and liquid and toss to coat
- Fry in the oil to a golden brown
- Keep warm for up to 1/2 hour in the oven at 200 degrees.
