Fried Cabbage with Bacon
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 medium head cabbage, cored and chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- ¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, cook chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy.
- Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
- Add diced onion to the bacon drippings and sauté until soft and translucent.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring well to coat it in the bacon drippings.
- Season with salt, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Cook uncovered for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
- Return the crispy bacon to the pan, mix well, and cook for another minute to warm through.
- Serve hot as a hearty Southern side dish—savory, smoky, and full of flavor, perfect alongside fried chicken, pork chops, or cornbread.~~
