You do realize that you'll pay more for less when you buy lower-sodium and lower-sugar ketchup, right? Seems silly, but it does make sense because commercial outfits are geared to make the majority of their product in one way, and every change costs them, too.
But YOU can do it cheaper!
- 1 cup (no salt added) tomato paste
- 1 tsp each of garlic powder and onion powder
- 1 tsp salt, IF you can have it- if not, leave it out
- 3 tbsp white vinegar
- 2 tbsp maple syrup (you can find sugar-free maple syrups online, but they're not cheap; however, if you don't mind a little bacon flavor in your ketchup, try Walden Farms' sugar-free bacon-maple syrup!)
- 3/4 cup water
Mix together, then simmer for about 5 minutes.
Keep refrigerated.
